Cruz Family Thanksgiving 2008 - Hosted by Philip G. Perez

Background:

Thanksgiving dinner was held at the home of Viola and Fabian Gomez in Austin, TX from 1974 to 1984.  Their contribution, patience and hospitality for ten years cannot be adequately repaid or equaled.  The family members began to host the Thanksgiving dinner in 1985 on a rotating basis.

The Executive Committee convened on May 15, 1988 on a return trip from Lubbock, TX of a tremendous celebration honoring Philip G. Perez's graduation from Texas Tech University.  Discussion was able to take place during the trip because they were all traveling together in a Winnebago minibus.  The executive committee consisted of Viola Gomez, selected chairperson, Julia Cruz, Josie Vasquez, and Mary Valdez.  Later joining the committee was Anna Perez.  She was selected co-chairperson of the Executive Committee.  The committee decided to arrange the rotation by generation and then birthdate.  In this manner there would be some sequence and guidance for placement on the list.  The above list of family members was composed to allow relatives advance notice as to the year they will be hosting the fabulous THANKSGIVING DINNER!

The host family is to provide the roasted turkeys.  Guests should bring a pot-luck dish to contribute.

The regular side dish items are:
  • cornbread stuffing by Josie Vasquez
  • ham by Julia Cruz
  • pinto beans and chili and Blackforest cake by Mary Valdez (Oma)
  • mashed potatoes and giblet gravey and Chocolate pie by Anna Perez
  • gourmet dish of choice by Viola Gomez.
